First Tanzanian Post!

Greetings from Malaika, where we are spending our Sunday at basically the nicest resort in Mwanza, courtesy of Raja, who is basically the Great Gatsby of Tanzania. He knows everyone, and everyone knows him.

Some initial thoughts:
1. Air Emirates is an awesome way to fly. We watched The King’s Speech on our first flight (amazing movie) and the food was easily the best I’ve ever had on a flight.
2. Dubai airport: overrated. Basically your standard airport, although we did enjoy their lounge chairs while waiting for our transfer.
3. Initial view of Tanzania: reminds me so much of India – the small shops, the population density, the friendly kids running about…its almost like a carbon copy.

As soon as we got in, we were treated to a welcome party (courtesy of Raja, of course), where we got to meet some of the visiting residents and students as well as some of the local interns and residents. My first description of them: friendly, and terrific dancers. They pretty much do whatever comes to mind, and make it look cool.

Current book I’m reading: Atonement, by Ian McEwan
